Description

El Cajas National Park is a high-altitude natural reserve 40 minutes away from Cuenca, with several lakes popular for hiking, camping & wildlife viewing; including Andean condors, giant hummingbirds and raccoon-like coatis. The park houses a permanent lake system of more than 2000 lake bodies of glacial origin and various elevations; the national park also portects the ancient route of the "Qhapaq Ñan" or “Inca trail”, a network of roads that cross the territories that were part of the Incan empire.

You will later visit the "Dos Chorreras" Inn and Hacienda, for a traditional local cuisine three-course lunch, hacienda tour and engage in farm daily activities, finally you will go to the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Cajas before returning to the city of Cuenca.

Being in the equator, yet high up in the Andes, El Cajas National Park and its surroundings enjoy cold and rainy weather conditions, we advise to bring comfy hiking shoes, sunscreen and a weatherproof warm jacket on the side; water ponchos will be provided if the weather conditions call for it.
