Description

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is a pristine natural habitat with dense flora and fauna, alongside the Yasuní National Park, it is worlwide recognized as a mega-diverse ecosystem and animal sanctuary.

Part of the Amazon basin and Amazon rain forest, the reserve has a warm and rainy weather and covers a unique natural system of lagoons, rivers and tropical forests which endangered species such as pink dolphins and amazon eagles call home.

One of the reserve’s highlights is that many indigenous communities consider it their ancentral territory and call it home, some of them opening to tourism, yet some of them, uncontacted to this day: Siona, Secoyas, Cofanes, Quichuas, Shuaras, Tagaeri and Taromenane people are part of the reserve and protected by constitutional law.

Being in the Equator, yet high up in the Andes, the city of Quito and its surroundings enjoy overall spring-like weather conditions, but be advised to bring comfy walking shoes, sunscreen and a warm jacket on the side; water ponchos will be provided if the weather conditions call for it.
